Does anyone care how chickens are raised?

Does anyone want to know what the nutritional content of a factory reared chicken against a organically raised chicken is?

Should we be bothered what makes an intensively raised chicken so cheap in comparison to the more costly organic bird?

  • Hugh is a total inspiration! People are just not aware and are kept in the dark totally about the information to trace their meat and produce. If half the joe public out there knew what was sprayed on their veges and how their meat was raised and slaughtered they would'nt buy it, people generally do care but if they are'nt informed how can they make a decision?
    City slicker to born again country farmer or not ,Hugh has brought major issues to light and an awareness to what we are truely consuming in meat and produce that has never been seen before.
  • The reality I guess - is that those that don't care will find ways to knock Hugh and those that do care think that he has a decent point to make...
  • I think sometimes he comes across as a bit of a zealot - but it is hard not to be passionate when you see the cr*p that some animals have to go through to become our food.
    People REALLY need to wake up to non-intensive farming
  • Non Intesive farming is not nessesarliy the answer. the UK has the highest welfare laws there are. the animals in this country are looked after better than any where else. e.g. feed, housing, medical restrictions. If you want your food to be welfare friendly, then buy British and STOP purchasing imported goods. check the labels of products to ensure that the food in british and not just pakaged in this country.
  • Like most people you buy organic not because of concern for the animal's welfare but because "it tastes better" so it is just like any other food commodity. To me it makes no difference whether the animal is raised organically or not as ultimately it will be slaughtered for human consumption. If people were truly concerned about animal welfare they would like me eschew the use of animal products altogether. This is why Whittingstall's campaign is meaningless.

    I will not give you my name as I am a butcher for Tesco.

    Although I addmire your views on battry farmed chickens, I think you are a fool to believe that the whole country could go (free range organic). Unless you know some one with a few million hectares of land to raise then on.

    I all so hope you cry as much for the hundreds of thousands more families you have put into food poverty, as you cried over the chickens you kept in battry conditions and then sent to sloughter. your dealings with Tesco has only done a 1/3 of what you believe, because Tesco now instead of selling 2 chickens for a fiver. THEY SELL THE SAME CHICKENS AT 3 for a tenner. So the pourer families are now buying the even more crap cheep Tesco brand frozen chicken, and when you stop them selling that you make even more families food pour.

    Tesco are laughing at you and rubbing they hands over the extra proffit you have earnt them. (WELL DONE Mr WHITTINGSTALL).

    I all so grow my own veg, and until last year I kept free range chickens and I know there is no justification in the price charged for free range chickens. And the price of yours is a joke, how you expect pourer families to pay that sort of price when a lot of them can just about feed them on the cheep stuff beggers be belief. I think it is time you took off those rose coulered glasses, and got back into the real world, and stop making the (POUR EVEN POURER).
